What Is a Blockchain Mempool? 📦🔗
A mempool is the temporary waiting area for valid transactions that have been received by nodes but haven’t been included in a block yet.
⚙️ How It Works
1️⃣ Transaction Is Created
A user creates and signs a transaction.
2️⃣ Transaction Is Broadcast
It is sent across the blockchain’s peer-to-peer network.
3️⃣ Nodes Verify It
Nodes check whether the transaction follows the network’s rules.
4️⃣ It Enters the Mempool
If valid, the transaction can wait in a node’s mempool until a block producer selects it.
5️⃣ Block Producer Selects Transactions
Eligible transactions are chosen for a candidate block according to the blockchain’s protocol.
6️⃣ Transaction Enters a Block
After the block is accepted by the network, the transaction becomes part of the blockchain history.
🧠 Important Point
There isn't necessarily one global mempool.
Different nodes can have slightly different sets of pending transactions because transactions propagate through the network at different times.
Think of it as:
Create → Broadcast → Verify → Mempool → Block → Blockchain
The mempool is therefore a temporary staging area, not part of the permanent blockchain itself.
