A few people in my P2P group asked this after seeing some other exchange drama in the news, so let me break down what's actually backing your funds when you're holding on Binance, not just marketing lines.
Proof of Reserves, so you don't have to "just trust them"
Binance publishes a Proof of Reserves portal where you can generate a Merkle hash tied to your own account and verify your balance is actually included in what they claim to hold. They use zk-SNARK verification on top of the Merkle tree setup, basically a cryptographic way to confirm the math adds up without exposing everyone else's balances. As of late 2025 this covered well over $160 billion in assets across 45+ asset categories. Binance also states user assets are backed 1:1 and that there's zero debt in its capital structure.
Worth being honest here: Proof of Reserves is a snapshot, it shows assets on a given date, it doesn't independently audit liabilities or off-balance-sheet stuff the way a full external financial audit would. It's a strong transparency signal, not a replacement for one.
SAFU, the actual emergency fund
This is the part most people vaguely know exists but don't understand. SAFU (Secure Asset Fund for Users) was created back in 2018, funded by setting aside a share of trading fees, specifically to cover users in extreme events like hacks or security breaches. It's not there to reimburse you if you get scammed on a bad trade or lose your own private key, it's an emergency backstop, not deposit insurance.
The interesting update for 2026: Binance recently converted about $1 billion of SAFU from stablecoins into Bitcoin, bringing the fund to roughly 15,000 BTC, and they've publicly committed to topping it back up if its value drops below $800 million. SAFU has actually been used twice historically, once after the 2019 hack and once for a 2022 bridge incident, so it's not just a fund that sits there for show.
What this looks like for us specifically in Pakistan
Since most of us are moving PKR in and out through P2P rather than direct bank rails, the real exposure window for a lot of users isn't the exchange's cold storage, it's the P2P trade itself. So the platform-side protections that matter most day to day are:

No centralized exchange, Binance included, is a substitute for self-custody if you're holding large amounts long-term. Proof of Reserves and SAFU reduce platform risk, they don't eliminate custody risk, and they do nothing for you if your own account gets phished. The biggest real-world loss driver for users here still isn't the exchange getting hacked, it's fake support DMs and phishing links.
Practical takeaway: trade and hold what you're actively using on the exchange, secure your account properly (authenticator app, whitelisted withdrawals), verify your P2P merchants, and withdraw larger balances to your own wallet when you're not actively trading.

🔴 Nếu bạn đã lỡ dùng tài khoản khác tên, hãy làm ngay:
1️⃣ Không tiếp tục giao dịch hoặc chuyển thêm tiền
Nếu giao dịch đang có vấn đề, tuyệt đối không tự ý chuyển thêm tiền cho đối tác chỉ vì họ yêu cầu qua tin nhắn.
2️⃣ Kiểm tra trạng thái lệnh P2P
Vào Binance → P2P → Lệnh → chọn giao dịch đang gặp vấn đề và kiểm tra trạng thái.
3️⃣ Nếu đã chuyển tiền nhưng chưa nhận được USDT
👉 Không bấm “Đã nhận tiền” nếu thực tế chưa nhận được tài sản.
👉 Giữ nguyên giao dịch và sử dụng chức năng khiếu nại/Appeal trong chính lệnh P2P.
4️⃣ Chuẩn bị đầy đủ bằng chứng
Nên lưu:
• Ảnh/video giao dịch P2P
• Mã lệnh
• Sao kê hoặc biên lai chuyển khoản
• Số tiền, thời gian chuyển
• Tên tài khoản ngân hàng gửi/nhận
• Nội dung trao đổi với đối tác
⚠️ Không xóa cuộc trò chuyện và không chuyển sang giao dịch ngoài Binance.
5️⃣ Phối hợp xác minh
Trong trường hợp tài khoản thanh toán không trùng tên, Binance có thể cần thêm thông tin để xác minh giao dịch. Hãy cung cấp thông tin chính xác và trung thực theo yêu cầu hỗ trợ.
🛡️ Cách phòng tránh tốt nhất
✅ Sử dụng tài khoản ngân hàng đứng đúng tên của bạn khi giao dịch P2P.
✅ Kiểm tra kỹ tên người nhận trước khi chuyển khoản.
✅ Chỉ trao đổi và thực hiện giao dịch trong hệ thống Binance P2P.
❌ Không chuyển tiền cho tài khoản khác với thông tin thanh toán của lệnh nếu có dấu hiệu bất thường.
❌ Không giao dịch ngoài nền tảng.
❌ Không tin người tự xưng là “CSKH Binance” và yêu cầu chuyển tiền để “mở khóa” hoặc “hoàn tiền”.
