Address loses all assets after buying 80 BTC for $5.2 million and storing them on a Ledger.

The case of the address that lost all its assets is real and part of a massive incident investigated on October 9, 2026. An investor lost 80 BTC initially purchased for $5.2 million and valued at $6.6 million with Bitcoin trading above $83,000 just 10 days after transferring the funds to a newly acquired Ledger hardware wallet.

What caused the diversion of funds?

• Supply chain attack: The primary suspicion is that the devices were tampered with before reaching the buyers. Scammers may have pre-configured the recovery phrases (seed phrases) to steal the funds as soon as they were deposited.

• Affected reseller: The Lookonchain tracker on Binance Square identified that the investor purchased the device through CryptoBilis, an official distributor operating in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

• Massive global losses: On-chain analyst Specter and the firm Arkham indicate that total losses already exceed $86 million, affecting hundreds of users across the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and TRON networks.

Ledger’s Stance and Alerts

Ledger announced via Yahoo Finance that it has requested an immediate halt to sales by CryptoBilis while it investigates the incident. The manufacturer emphasized that its internal systems and infrastructure were not compromised, limiting the issue to batches held by the third-party reseller.
