Trump’s New Proposal on Chinese Flights

Donald Trump has suggested banning Chinese airlines from flying over Russian airspace on routes to and from the United States, arguing that it gives them an unfair advantage.

Currently, Chinese airlines can fly shorter routes over Russia, saving time and fuel, while U.S. carriers are banned from Russian airspace due to sanctions.

The U.S. Transportation Department supports the idea, saying the move would create a level playing field between American and Chinese airlines.

However, this could escalate tensions with China. If enforced, Beijing might retaliate by restricting U.S. exports — such as Boeing aircraft, semiconductor parts, and agricultural goods — just as it has recently turned to Brazil and Argentina for trade alternatives.
