The news hit hard: #Base confirmed it's moving away from #Optimism's OP Stack to build its own unified, in-house infrastructure. Since Base accounted for the vast majority of the Superchain's gas revenue, the market reacted fast, $OP dropped sharply in the days following the announcement, at one point losing over 20% and touching multi-year lows.
Why it matters Base wasn't just another chain on the OP Stack, it was Optimism's biggest revenue driver. Losing that sequencer revenue share is a real structural hit, not just sentiment-driven fear. That's why the sell-off was sharp rather than a knee-jerk dip.
The other side OP Stack still powers dozens of chains, including names like Uniswap, Kraken, and Worldcoin, and Optimism has said it's shifting toward a service-based revenue model instead of relying solely on Superchain sharing. Some data even pointed to whales accumulating during the crash, betting the ecosystem's core tech still has long-term relevance beyond Base#Alert🔴
