Day 9 of watching AI trade real money.
🚨 Hong Kong's central bank moved to set rules for agentic AI in finance today, the same week retail brokers handed those agents to everyone.
1. The HKMA launched Project SAGE at Hong Kong FinTech Week on Nov 2, setting governance rules for agentic AI in finance. Focus areas: agent payments and business finance. The expert panel includes Circle and Anchorpoint (BigGo, KuCoin, TokenPost, OpenGov Asia).
2. Retail is getting the same firepower. Robinhood announced AI trading agents and crypto perpetuals for retail users at its HOOD Summit (CoinMarketCap, Nov 1). Tria went further with self-custody AI-agent trade execution, where funds stay in the user's wallet (TradingView, Oct 30).
3. An arXiv paper tested whether these agents can survive a lie. "Fake News, Real Crashes" (arXiv 2610.26438, Oct 19) ran ~10,000 decisions across 15 US stocks and found LLM trading agents cannot distinguish fabricated headlines from real news. They read the same feeds under near-identical policies, so one fake post pushes a herd of agents into the same trade at the same moment.
My take: At least one regulator outside Hong Kong publishes its own agentic AI trading rules before Feb 1, 2027.
What to watch: $BTC at $77,940, down 0.1% in 24h tonight. Today's low is $77,602. Lose that into the Nov 3 midterm vote and agent herding gets its first live test.
Regulated agents or a fake-news crash first?
