With August core CPI accelerating to 0.3% MoM, market pricing for a 25bp rate hike at this week's FOMC meeting has surged near 90%. The macro narrative has taken a decidedly hawkish pivot heading into the rate decision.

1. Rate Hike Outlook: One-Off or New Hiking Cycle?
A 25 bp rate increase bringing the target range to 3.75%–4.00% is nearly guaranteed. Rising energy prices combined with sticky underlying inflation leave central bankers with little room to pause without threatening inflation-fighting credibility.

However, this is expected to be an "insurance" one-off hike rather than the start of an extended tightening campaign. While the updated dot plot will likely retain a hawkish tilt to keep financial conditions firm, broader economic slowing suggests a policy pause through Q4.

2. Asset Class Outlook: Bullish vs. Bearish Matrix
Tech Stocks (Bearish Short-Term): Higher discount rates directly compress high-growth stock valuations. Expect short-term pullbacks in mega-cap tech, though a clear "one-and-done" signal could ignite a rapid relief rally.

Gold (Short-Term Bearish, Long-Term Bullish): Higher real yields and a firmer US dollar act as short-term headwinds. However, persistent inflationary pressure keeps gold highly attractive as a macro portfolio hedge.

Bitcoin (Neutral & Volatile): Crypto faces immediate liquidity pressure as risk-free yields tick higher. If the Fed signals a terminal rate pause following this hike, BTC should swiftly reclaim key upside targets once macro clarity settles.
