Scrolling through Binance P2P listings, you'll notice some accounts carry a merchant label while most don't, and understanding what that badge actually means helped me trade with a lot more confidence. Every single trader on Binance P2P, merchant or not, has already passed KYC identity verification before they can place or accept an order. Merchant status sits on top of that baseline. It typically comes with a higher trading volume requirement and additional scrutiny from Binance, plus in some cases extra verification that individual merchants collect directly from the users they trade with, separate from what Binance itself holds. That merchant level check doesn't replace Binance's own protections. The crypto in a merchant trade still locks in escrow exactly the same way, chat still records the full conversation, and an appeal still goes to Binance support if something breaks down, provided the entire exchange stayed within Binance P2P rather than continuing through outside channels. A badge signals more history and more scrutiny, not a guarantee that nothing can go wrong.
I still evaluate a merchant's completion rate and order count the same way I would with any other counterparty, since a badge is a starting point, not a substitute for actually checking the numbers. If a merchant asks for extra personal information as part of their own verification process, I only share what feels reasonable and I confirm through chat exactly why it's needed, since Binance itself never requires this at the P2P transaction level. I still verify every payment through my own bank before releasing crypto, badge or no badge, and I keep my usual screenshots either way. Reaching out to Binance support if a merchant's request ever feels off has cleared up confusion for me more than once.
