#ETHUp70%InQ3ButLiquidityFalls

ETH gained 70% in Q3 — but something underneath the rally moved in the opposite direction. 👀

Ethereum clearly outperformed Bitcoin in Q3, gaining roughly 70% versus BTC’s 42%. But CoinGecko data shows ETH’s median market depth fell to just 35–45% of Bitcoin’s, compared with at least 60% during the same period last year.

That matters because thinner order books mean large orders can move price more easily. ETH still had around $13M–$14M of liquidity close to its market price, so this is not an illiquid market — the bigger issue is the deterioration relative to BTC.

Price action also deserves attention. ETH finished Q3 near $2,689 after reaching around $2,775. Current derivatives data shows about $34B in open interest, meaning leverage remains a major factor in short-term volatility.

My take: ETH’s strength is impressive, but thinner liquidity means both breakouts and pullbacks can become sharper. I’d watch order-book depth, OI and volume closely before chasing momentum.

Do you think ETH can maintain its Q3 strength if liquidity remains this thin?
