On Oct 8, 2026, ESMA (Europe’s top securities regulator) published an opinion: MiCA-authorised firms — licensed crypto-asset service providers, or CASPs — must stop offering EU clients services involving stablecoins that are not MiCA-compliant.

ESMA published an opinion today telling MiCA-authorised crypto firms to stop offering services on stablecoins that don't meet MiCA, and to clear out the exposure their EU users already hold. National regulators are asked to require it no later than three months after publication, which lands on 8 January 2027.

The requirement sits on the issuer but it's enforced at the venue... if a stablecoin's issuer never got authorised, an EU exchange or custodian can't offer it, whatever its own licence says. Firms have to put controls in place so EU users can't buy more, and regulators can allow a supervised wind-down (conversion, withdrawal, transfer) to help people get out.

In practice that mostly means USDT, for EU retail and for the funds and treasuries that use it as the settlement leg for $BTC and $ETH . It's addressed to national regulators, so each country still has to act on it, and I think the switch into authorised stablecoins happens country by country over the next three months. I'll be watching which regulators move first.

刷到 Cointelegraph：欧盟证券监管机构 ESMA 10 月 8 日出了意见，要求拿到 MiCA 牌照的加密资产服务商，停止给欧盟客户提供「非 MiCA 合规稳定币」相关服务——交易平台、兑换、下单、托管、转账、投顾、组合管理都算在内。

存量敞口要尽快清，最晚不晚于 2027 年 1 月 8 日（意见发布后三个月）。过渡期原则上只能做卖出、兑换、提现、转账、保管这类帮客户退出的动作，不能继续买进或加仓；各国监管还可以把期限再提前。

ESMA 没点名具体币种。Coinbase 已把 Tether 的 USDT 和 PayPal 的 PYUSD 标成非合规，要求欧洲经济区客户 10 月 30 日前自行取走，到期未取的会自动换成 USDC 或其他支持资产。
