Cutting the size of a resting limit order on Kraken spot can leave it in the same queue position. The route used to change it matters.
For an eligible order, an atomic amend preserves priority when you reduce total quantity, keep the limit price unchanged and leave some quantity open. Kraken's legacy edit route cancels the old order and creates a new one, losing priority even at the same price. Increasing total quantity through an atomic amend also sends the order to the back of its price queue.
Orders with attached conditional close instructions aren't eligible for atomic amendments. For a plain limit order, though, a bot that cancels and replaces a quote just to make it smaller can give up its queue position unnecessarily. That's worth checking in how the bot changes orders.
