Always, the human mind is affected more by losses than by profits. A trader may win 9 trades and feel everything is going great, but the losing trade stays in their mind and they start asking: Why did I lose? If I hadn’t… If I had waited….
In trading, there are 3 main reasons:
Losses hurt more than the joy of profits, even if the total profits are much higher.
Arrogance after a streak of wins makes the trader see the loss as “wrong” instead of as a natural part of the strategy.
They forget the overall outcome and focus only on the last trade.
For example: if you win 9 trades × $10 = +$90, and you lose one trade -$10, you’re still +$80.
So the losing trade here isn’t the problem; the problem is if it makes you change your strategy or retaliate with a bigger trade.
A professional trader doesn’t just ask: “Why did I lose this trade?” They ask: “Were all 10 trades committed to my plan? And is the strategy profitable across a large set of trades?”
