The California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) has updated its campaign filing guidelines and added a broad set of rules regarding cryptocurrency donations. The updates adapt to changes in legislation and commission regulations that reflect modern financial practices. Political committees are allowed to request cryptocurrency as intangible contributions with certain requirements. Cryptocurrency donations must comply with applicable limits and cannot be accepted from foreign representatives, lobbyists or anonymous sources. Committees cannot receive cryptocurrency donations directly through peer-to-peer transactions; instead, it must be processed through selected payment processors acting on behalf of the committee. Cryptocurrency donations must be made and received through US-based payment processors registered with the US Treasury Department and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).
