PANews reported on August 11 that North Korea continued to develop nuclear weapons and produce nuclear fissile materials and evade UN sanctions in 2023, according to an unpublished UN report seen by Reuters on Thursday. Independent sanctions monitors said in a report submitted to the UN Security Council Committee that North Korean hackers will continue to target online cryptocurrencies and other financial exchanges after stealing a record $1.7 billion in 2022. Companies in the cryptocurrency, defense, energy and health sectors have been particularly attacked. The report will be released in the coming weeks. Sanctions monitors submit reports to the UN Security Council twice a year and have previously accused North Korea of using cyber attacks to fund its nuclear and missile programs. North Korea has denied allegations of hacking or other cyber attacks.
