The European Union's Central Bank (ECB) will decide on the creation of a CBDC by the end of October. This was stated by the head of the department, Christine Lagarde, The Block reports.
According to her, widespread adoption of the digital euro will still not happen in the near future. She noted that the ECB is acting in an “accelerated” manner, but the final answer on this issue is still being discussed.
A "pilot phase of experimentation and fine-tuning" is planned after the central bank's board of governors meets. Mass distribution of the technology is scheduled for 2027.
The main agenda on this issue is to preserve the value of fiat currency and its parity with the future CBDC.#CBDC
