Dell has announced a leak that potentially affected 49 million customers.
The computer manufacturer Dell has sent notifications to customers regarding a data leak resulting from a breach of the purchase information portal. This was reported by Bleeping Computer.
Among the compromised information:
- Name;
- Physical address;
- Information about Dell equipment and order details, including service tag, product description, order date, and corresponding warranty information.
The company emphasized that the perpetrator did not gain access to financial or payment information, email addresses, or phone numbers. Dell is collaborating with law enforcement and third-party experts to investigate the incident. The number of affected users is not disclosed.
Information about the alleged leak first appeared on BreachForums at the end of April. According to a seller under the username Menelik, the hacked database of purchases from 2017 to 2024 contained information about 49 million customers.
In a comment to Bleeping Computer, a #hacker stated that they gained access to the Dell portal for partners, resellers, and retail sellers by registering multiple accounts under fictitious company names.
At the time of writing, the forum post has been removed, indicating that the database may have been acquired by third-party malicious actors.
