#BitcoinHalving What is it? and What Will Happen?
✔️The block reward of 6.25#Bitcoinsper block will be changed to 3.125#Bitcoinsper block around April 19, 2024.
What is#Bitcoinhalving?
✔️The amount of new#Bitcoincreated is halved every four years on halving day. When#Bitcoinhalves, the reward given to contributors who maintain the security of the network is reduced by 50%, which directly affects the rate at which new Bitcoins come into circulation. We call this the halving day.
✔️At the beginning of 2020, 12.5 new Bitcoins were added to the network every 10 minutes through virtual "mining".
✔️In May, this amount was halved to 6.25. By April 2024, this amount will drop to approximately 3,125, and this process will continue until all 21 million bitcoins have been mined (this is estimated to happen around 2140).
✔️This process, coded into the Bitcoin protocol by Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of #Bitcoin, is a way to increase its scarcity by limiting the total supply of Bitcoin.
What happens when#Bitcoinhalves?
✔️When Bitcoin goes through a halving, the number of new Bitcoins produced is halved. To put it differently, miners who verify transactions and add them to the blockchain experience a 50% decrease in their rewards.
✔️This event is hardcoded into Bitcoin's protocol and occurs approximately every four years or after block 210,000.
Why is#Bitcoinhalving important?
✔️When Bitcoin halving, the reward given to contributors who ensure the security of the network is reduced by 50%, which directly affects the rate at which new Bitcoins come into circulation. Since there are only 21 million Bitcoins and the halving reduces their number, the halving makes bitcoin more scarce.
✔️Price increases will be more positive after the halving.
