Bank of England deputy governor Jon Cunliffe said policymakers are considering using a digital pound in wholesale markets. The suggestion that policymakers are only looking at central bank digital currencies in a retail setting is a “misunderstanding of the bank’s position.”
Jon Cunliffe said that the Bank of England has clearly recognized the potential transformative impact of financial asset tokenization, atomic settlement, smart contracts and other emerging technologies on wholesale financial markets. (Bloomberg)
