🚨Warning: Scammers up their game, using real money in wallet address poisoning attacks.
- Scammers send real ETH to lure users into the trap.
- The victim recently lost nearly $50,000 after receiving a small amount of Ethereum.
- Another case, a user lost 1 million USDT.
🔍Cyvers Alerts, an online threat awareness platform, revealed the above incident. These bad actors rely on users to accidentally copy phishing addresses, similar to address poisoning. They can also send fake Tether (USDT) tokens, causing users to deposit funds to the wrong address and fall prey to scammers.
💡Address poisoning is a scam that targets the habit of copying and pasting wallet addresses in cryptocurrency transactions. The scammer uses a "vanity" address generator to create an address identical to the victim's and sends transactions of negligible value from this fake account. If the victim accidentally pastes in the scammer's address, they will send money to the scammer instead of the intended recipient.
