RedCoin comes to PayMe: HKD payments with defined limits
On October 23, 2026, HSBC announced the launch of RedCoin, symbol RCHKD, on PayMe. Wallet activation will roll out over the following days. The more than 3.3 million users cited represent PayMe’s potential reach, not an actual adoption figure.
RedCoin is pegged to the Hong Kong dollar and can be redeemed 1:1 for HKD, subject to conditions. It runs on HSBC’s proprietary DLT network and is held in custody by the bank. Its initial use will include payments between individuals and to merchants through PayMe.
There are important limitations. The HSBC HK app wallet and tokenized investments are still slated for a later date. HSBC also states that RedCoin cannot be transferred between PayMe and HSBC HK wallets.
It is also not a deposit protected by Hong Kong’s deposit protection scheme, and it pays no interest while held. Reserves do not eliminate operational, custody, or liquidity risks.
As a separate market reference: on Binance Spot, at 14:54 UTC on October 24, USDC was trading at 1.00119 USDT (+0.007% over 24 hours). This is the USDC/USDT rate, not a quote for RCHKD.
Market perspective: distributing a stablecoin within a payments app expands its potential reach. Active wallets, payments, and actual redemptions are what count when measuring adoption. The reference currency and transfer restrictions matter just as much as the “stablecoin” label.
