#BrentHits$110ForFirstTimeSinceMay
Oil markets are sending a warning that investors shouldn’t ignore. Brent crude touched $110 per barrel on Friday, October 16, for the first time since May 19, before settling at $109.86, up 3.7% for the session. Brent gained 4.9% over the week.
What’s driving the rally? Escalating Middle East tensions, risks to energy infrastructure and uncertainty about how much Russian diesel can reach global markets are raising concerns about supply disruptions.
My take: The bigger story goes beyond oil prices. If crude stays near $110, higher energy costs could put fresh pressure on inflation, complicate the Federal Reserve’s rate decisions and challenge equity and crypto markets. Bitcoin could face headwinds if rising inflation expectations push Treasury yields and the dollar higher.
However, a sustained rally depends on actual supply disruptions and whether geopolitical tensions escalate further. Any easing could reverse part of the move.
The level I’m watching is $110: Will Brent hold above it and extend the rally, or will sellers push prices back down?
