Stripe and Plasma are designing cards for spending in multiple currencies

On October 15, 2026, at 09:20 ET, Plasma announced a collaboration with Stripe to develop stablecoin-backed cards. It is participating as a design partner: the announcement describes planned features without setting a general launch date.

The expansion covers USD, BRL, EUR, MXN, and COP, and names OUSD among the stablecoins planned to be supported. The idea is to be able to spend, for example, euros directly, without first converting them to dollars. Reducing conversions is a goal; it does not amount to a guarantee of zero exchange costs.

The more than 30 countries mentioned refer to Stripe’s current infrastructure reach. Expanding to more than 100 in 2027 is a plan. These figures do not confirm that the new experience will be available to every resident.

Automatically selecting the appropriate balance when paying is also presented as a feature in development. It is worth distinguishing this from Plasma One, the account and card that Plasma already offers.

Plasma warns on its website that stablecoin balances are not bank deposits and are subject to risks and geographic restrictions. The availability, fees, and terms of each service remain relevant.

Market view: XPL, the native token of the Plasma network, was trading on Binance at 0.08180 USDT (-3.90% in 24 h), with 5.18 million USDT in 24-hour volume for XPL/USDT, as of 01:45 UTC on 17/10. The agreement does not quantify any additional demand for XPL. The development of a payments product and the valuation of its token should be analyzed separately.
