Night before the unlock: $ZK pumping first, just to be safe? It spent two days hovering just above the invalidation level, then surged nearly 10% on a burst of volume in half an hour.

First, the levels: from yesterday through this morning, ZK kept grinding just above the 0.0164 invalidation level. The 09:00 and 10:00 1h candles closed at just 0.01644 and 0.01649. Any lower, and the thesis in the October 15 breakout post would have been invalidated entirely.

The turn came around midday: the 12:00 1h candle closed at 0.01724, reclaiming the 0.01707 confirmation level. At 13:15, the 15-minute candle saw a sudden surge in volume, with roughly 457,000 USDT traded—more than five times the volume of several preceding candles—and shot up to 0.01823. The 13:30 candle closed at 0.01806 without giving the move back. Spot was at 0.01805 before publication, up about 10% from the area around the invalidation level and already nearing the October 15 swing-high zone of 0.0186–0.0188. Meanwhile, BTC was around 82,100, up only about 1.2%. This move was ZK's own doing.

Why the rise? I couldn't find a clear new catalyst today. The existing backdrop is still the old narrative around Airbender Prime and Vitalik's remarks from October 13–15. What really stands out is the timing: tomorrow, October 17, around 173 million ZK tokens are due to unlock (investors + team, according to multiple sources). A volume-driven rally on the eve of an unlock—is this front-running, or a pump before distribution? It's far too early to say.

Positioning isn't extreme: OKX perpetual funding is around -0.002%, basically neutral; open interest is about $3.2 million, roughly on par with the past two days. This doesn't look like a squeeze-driven move; spot volume seems more likely to be driving it. But given the timing, the staying power of this pre-unlock volume has to be questioned.

My take: until it clears the 0.0186–0.0188 swing-high zone, this is just a recovery attempt. The 14:00 1h close will be telling: hold above 0.01707 and the reclaim is confirmed, with the prior high next; fall back below and treat it as a pre-unlock spike. The major invalidation level is unchanged: a 1h close below 0.0164 invalidates the breakout thesis entirely. I won't chase this move before the unlock.

Risk warning: Volatility can increase on the eve of an unlock, and a 15-minute rally can just as easily be given back in 15 minutes. This is only my personal market commentary, not investment advice.

Pick a side: when the unlock lands tomorrow, which way are you leaning—unlock overhang cleared and a run at the prior high, or a pump before distribution and a return to 0.0164?
