Monday, October 12, and Binance P2P opens the day with two readings that seem to contradict each other. 🤔
The internal spread for $USDT is Bs. 59.51, or 6.08%. Buying costs Bs. 1,038.10, while selling gets you Bs. 978.59. Meanwhile, the BCV rate is Bs. 876.80, putting the P2P premium over the official rate at 18.40%.
Why does one figure behave differently from the other? Because they measure different things.
🔹 The spread exists WITHIN the P2P market: it’s the gap between the asking price from sellers and the offer price from buyers. It narrows when people are trading and the prices move closer together. There are 204 active offers today, making for a market with plenty of activity to start the week.
🔹 The premium lives OUTSIDE: it compares P2P with the BCV. It rises when the official rate stays put while demand for digital dollars in bolívares pushes prices up.
In practical terms: a narrower spread gives you better entry and exit conditions on Binance, but a high premium confirms that the bolívar is still losing ground against the digital dollar. They’re two snapshots of the same day, not the same snapshot.
And keep this in mind: when $BTC moves sharply, appetite for digital dollars in the region also shifts, and that eventually shows up in P2P quotes.
The key point: don’t trade with just one number in mind. If you’re moving $USDT today, check both sides of the market, see how many offers are available, and confirm the exact amount before accepting. The market moves faster than any screenshot.
Save this post and compare tomorrow. If anything changes, you’ll spot it first in the quotes.
