📊 An August close that caught the sector’s attention
The National Bank of Credit (BNC) ended the eighth month of the year with a financial snapshot that few banks in the country can boast about: its accumulated net result reached 67,744.7 million bolivars, which is equivalent to about 130.1 million dollars according to the exchange rate used by the consulting firm Aristimuño Herrera & Asociados. Put into variations, this represents a year-on-year jump of 811.2% in bolivars and of 61% as measured in foreign currency.
This is no small matter because, in a banking system where almost all players grow due to inflation and exchange-rate adjustments, what separates a bank from the pack is precisely its ability to beat the average. And the BNC did so in almost every measured category: income, the loan portfolio, deposits, assets, and equity.
📈 The numbers that support the story
Financial income closed at 112,514.9 million bolívares (216.1 million dollars), with a year-on-year increase of 817.8% in local currency and 62.2% in foreign exchange, outperforming the rest of the banking sector. In terms of profitability, ROE stood at 82.6%—6.6 points higher than a year earlier—while ROA reached 18.6%, improving by 1.8 points versus July. With these indicators, the institution climbed positions in performance rankings.
The loan portfolio is perhaps the most striking item: 291,869.5 million bolívares (367.1 million dollars), with a 7.9% month-on-month growth and a 795% year-on-year jump in bolívares and 65.6% in dollars. The bank holds 8.9% of the credit market and remains in the top 5, although it gave up one spot compared to August 2025. Delinquency— that thermometer that in Venezuela you always have to look at closely—stood at 1.26%, with a coverage of non-performing loans of 313.1%: a fairly comfortable cushion.
🔎 Deposits: the muscle that really matters
Where the BNC hit hardest was in deposits. It closed August with 566,666.5 million bolívares (712.8 million dollars), an annual increase of 784.2% in bolívares and 63.6% in dollars. That allowed it to secure an 11% share of the deposit market and move up to third place in the ranking, when a year earlier it was fifth.
The driving force was demand accounts, which grew 798%, and savings accounts, which rose 532%. At the same time, the bank continued pushing the migration of its Maestro debit card to the BNC MastercardDebit, with contactless payments and online purchases from domestic merchants.
In size, total assets reached 937,847.2 million bolívares (1,179.7 million dollars), up 723.7% in bolívares and 52.4% in foreign exchange, giving it an 8.7% share and fourth place in the system. Equity reached 233,018.6 million bolívares (293.1 million dollars), rising 664.4% in local currency and 41.4% in dollars.
