U.S. Space Force Maj. Jason Lowery proposes an unconventional approach to cybersecurity and national defense. He suggested that the United States should hoard Bitcoin as a weapon of self-defense.
Lowery pointed out that Bitcoin’s proof-of-work system can serve as a channel for power competition in the network field, and this competition is less destructive. The competition plays a role similar to that of chess tournaments and the Olympics during the Cold War.
Lowery called on the United States to hoard Bitcoin and cultivate a domestic Bitcoin mining industry. It also calls for extending Second Amendment protections to the technology, treating it as a self-defense weapon.
In February 2019, U.S. President Trump asked the Department of Defense to draft a bill to establish a Space Force. In August of the same year, Trump announced the formal establishment of the U.S. Space Force Command.
