#USAugustAvgHourlyEarningsRise3.1%
The wage number looks modest, but the market may care more about what it says about the Federal Reserve.
Average hourly earnings in the United States rose 0.3% in August, lifting annual wage growth to 3.1%, down from 3.2% in July. At the same time, nonfarm payrolls jumped by 162,000, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.1%.
My view: this is a mixed signal. Wage growth is slowing, which eases some inflation pressure, but the strong rebound in hiring keeps the labor market looking resilient. That combination gives the Federal Reserve less reason to rush toward a more accommodative policy.
For crypto, this matters because Fed expectations → Treasury yields → liquidity → Bitcoin and risk assets. If labor strength keeps rate expectations elevated, Bitcoin and altcoins could face short-term volatility. The next major catalyst is inflation data, which could confirm or challenge the current interest-rate narrative.
For me, the more important question is not whether wages rose to 3.1%, but whether inflation will slow faster than wage growth.
Do you think the next CPI reading will reinforce the Fed's hawkish stance or reverse it?
