Circle becomes Chelsea’s principal partner; $USDC featured on the front of the kit
Global’s second-largest USD stablecoin, $USDC, has officially been featured on the kit of a Premier League powerhouse. On August 28, Chelsea FC announced a partnership with Circle Internet Group, the stablecoin issuer. Circle will become the club’s main partner (Principal Partner) and the official front-of-shirt sponsor, with the partnership taking effect from the 2026/27 season.
According to the partnership details released by both sides, Circle and the $USDC brand will appear on the front of the jerseys of Chelsea’s men’s team, women’s team, and youth academy. In the Premier League match on August 30, when the men’s first team hosts Brighton, they will debut new jerseys featuring the $USDC brand for the first time.

This is also the first time that $USDC appears on the front of a jersey as a sponsor at Premier League matches. Through Chelsea’s globally distributed fan base, Circle hopes to push $USDC further from the crypto and fintech markets toward mainstream consumers.
Circle co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire said the company’s vision for building $USDC is to help funds flow smoothly around the world—just like information on the internet. Chelsea, with its global fan community spanning different countries and markets, aligns strongly with the two parties’ shared vision for globalization.
The sponsorship amount was not disclosed. Chelsea was previously reported to have quoted a price of £65 million per year.
Circle and Chelsea have not publicly disclosed the length of the deal or the financial terms. However, in recent years Chelsea has continued to look for long-term front-of-shirt sponsors. Earlier market reports said the club hopes the sponsorship contract will be worth about £65 million per year, or roughly $88 million.
In the first round of Chelsea’s 2026/27 season away match against Fulham, there is still no major sponsor on the front of the jersey. With Circle confirmed as a partner, the team will start showcasing the $USDC brand from this season’s first Premier League home match.
Circle Chief Business Officer Kash Razzaghi said Chelsea can connect hundreds of millions of fans across borders, and $USDC is also positioned to enable digital funds to flow across borders. Putting $USDC on Chelsea’s jerseys also gives Circle a highly visible brand position in global football events.
Chelsea chairman Jason Gannon said that the partnership will help the club continue to drive digital innovation, and both parties will also explore how to use new financial technologies to improve club operations and the fan experience in the future.
$USDC’s scale surpasses $70 billion—Circle moves in on mainstream market exposure
Circle is expanding sports marketing at a time when the global stablecoin market is growing rapidly. According to market data provided by RWA.xyz, the total stablecoin supply is currently about $303.4 billion. Of this, $USDT issued by Tether is about $192.9 billion, accounting for roughly 63.4%; $USDC is about $73.2 billion, accounting for about 24.1%.

$USDC has been widely used in cryptocurrency trading, DeFi, cross-border payments, and corporate settlements. In recent years, Circle has continued to extend its business into traditional financial markets, including launching the Circle Payments Network and developing the enterprise blockchain Arc, with the goal of building a complete ecosystem covering stablecoins, payments, and on-chain financial infrastructure.
After Circle listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2025, brand visibility also increased significantly. Last year, the U.S. formally passed the (GENIUS) bill to establish a federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins, and Circle has continued to emphasize the compliant positioning of $USDC.
Through this collaboration with Chelsea, $USDC’s brand exposure will be extended from financial markets to global professional football. In the past, sports sponsorship was mostly led by exchanges and crypto platforms. Now, stablecoin brands are also moving directly into high-visibility positions—such as the front of Premier League jerseys.
UK regulators closely watch crypto sponsorships; Circle’s compliant status is key
The timing of the Circle–Chelsea partnership also coincides with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) stepping up its focus on business collaborations between football clubs and crypto firms.
In June this year, the FCA issued warnings to the Premier League and other football clubs, requiring teams to conduct thorough checks before accepting sponsorship from unauthorized crypto companies. The FCA also reminded them that such partnerships may involve risks related to financial crime, consumer protection, and the clubs’ reputations.
Circle holds FCA permissions related to e-money institution licensing in the UK, meaning it is regulated as a financial services provider. In its partnership announcement, Circle also specifically states that this sponsorship is a brand collaboration and does not constitute an invitation or inducement to consumers to buy, hold, or trade any crypto assets, nor does it represent the promotion of any specific financial services.
Crypto and football collaborations have already included multiple large-scale cases in the past, such as Crypto.com securing long-term naming rights to the Los Angeles stadium, Tezos sponsoring Manchester United’s training kits, and OKX partnering with Manchester City. After the market slump in 2022, crypto companies’ sports sponsorship activities cooled down for a time. Now, as the market rebounds and the regulatory framework becomes clearer, major brands are increasing investment again.

With Circle directly securing the front-of-jersey position on Chelsea, $USDC can reach fans worldwide through Premier League matches. As stablecoins gradually move beyond crypto trading and on-chain financial markets, sports sponsorship has become a new channel for Circle to broaden mainstream brand awareness.
