According to CoinDesk, Internet Computer-based Bitfinity has integrated with the Bitcoin network, allowing assets to cross-chain to other blockchains. ICP's technology stack will allow applications using Ethereum's smart contract programming language Solidity to access Bitcoin-based tokens. Bitcoin's second layer Bitfinity introduced its Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) to bring smart contracts to the Bitcoin protocol and enable Bitcoin DeFi applications using Runes. The Bitfinity EVM is designed to allow developers to deploy Bitcoin-based Solidity smart contracts, allowing them to transfer BTC, Ordinals and Runes. The new Bitcoin protocol Runes was released during the halving event about a month ago, and Bitfinity tried to attract interest in it by introducing smart contract functions so that it can be used as a platform for creating Bitcoin DeFi applications. Runes allows fungible tokens to be minted on the Bitcoin blockchain, and a flurry of activity after its release immediately caused network fees to soar. However, subsequent activity has decreased.
