According to Decrypt, earlier this week, Finnish media MTV Uutiset published an article stating that the Finnish National Investigation Service (KRP) successfully tracked transactions using the privacy-protecting cryptocurrency Monero. However, Csilla Brimer, a former member of the MAGIC Monero Fund Board, told Decrypt that Monero itself is unlikely to be cracked. She said investigators may have been able to trace some transactions due to poor security practices by users, rather than Monero itself being compromised. KRP is investigating transactions made at addresses linked to the 2018 data breach and subsequent extortion of Finnish psychotherapy provider Vastaamo. Although Monero is banned on multiple exchanges, it remains the largest privacy coin with a market capitalization of $2.8 billion.
