These remarks have led many to speculate that the documentary may reveal the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto. However, Hoback did not explicitly state that Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity has been determined, but hinted that the content of the film will be shocking.

Hoback is best known for the HBO miniseries QAnon, which purported to expose the truth behind the far-right QAnon conspiracy theory.

This time, he turned the focus of his investigation to the origin of Bitcoin, trying to track down the true identity of the mysterious engineer "Satoshi Nakamoto" who is believed to have invented Bitcoin and its underlying technology.

Galaxy Research Director: Could Satoshi Nakamoto be him?

As the documentary is about to be aired, experts in the currency circle are speculating about the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto that may be revealed in the film.

According to (Decrypt), Alex Thorn, director of research at crypto asset management company Galaxy, claimed that the documentary may reportedly identify Satoshi Nakamoto as Len Sassaman.

Sassaman was an American cryptographer who contributed to the cryptopunk mailing list where Satoshi Nakamoto first announced Bitcoin, but he committed suicide in July 2011 and was long believed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. one of the possible candidates.

Other Possible Real Identities of Satoshi Nakamoto

In addition to Sassaman, there are many people who are believed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. According to (Decrypt), these possible candidates include:

  • Dorian Nakamoto: An American physicist and systems engineer, his full name is Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto. (Newsweek) published an article in 2014 claiming that he was Satoshi Nakamoto, but he denied his relationship with Bitcoin. The photos of Satoshi Nakamoto currently searched on Google are all of him, but whether he is the person remains to be confirmed.

  • Hal Finney: Cryptozoologist and software developer who was the first person to receive Bitcoin and regularly interacts with Satoshi Nakamoto on the Bitcoin forum (Bitcoin.org). He died in 2014, which may explain why Satoshi Nakamoto's bitcoins have remained unused.

  • Nick Szabo: An American computer scientist who created "Bit Gold", the predecessor of Bitcoin, and first proposed the concept of "smart contracts".

  • Adam Back: Cryptozoologist and one of the first people to receive Satoshi Nakamoto’s emails. Although he has repeatedly denied that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, he is still considered a possible candidate by the Financial Times.

  • Gavin Andresen: Entrusted by Satoshi Nakamoto to keep the Bitcoin source code, he was also the first person to create a Bitcoin faucet. According to Binance Academy, the faucet mechanism allows users to earn small cryptocurrency rewards by completing simple tasks.

  • Craig Wright: Australian entrepreneur who once claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, but was ruled by a British judge in a March 2024 lawsuit that he was not the author of the Bitcoin white paper.

However, speculation about Satoshi Nakamoto’s identity does not stop there. What many people are more concerned about is, if the documentary really reveals the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, is this person still alive?

(Decrypt) pointed out that wallets related to Satoshi Nakamoto still hold about 1.1 million Bitcoins, which is worth about $67 billion at current market prices. If this huge amount of money is confirmed to be controlled by someone who is still alive, it may cause a certain degree of panic in the Bitcoin market.
