Scammers hacked two accounts linked to presidential candidate Donald Trump's family to promote malicious crypto links, but X quickly deleted them.

At least two X accounts belonging to former President Donald Trump's family have been hacked, with the attackers posting multiple links to fake crypto projects.

Lara and Tiffany Trump's official X accounts were hacked on September 4, and the news was reported on the official Telegram chat of Trump's new decentralized finance (DeFi) project World Liberty Financial.

Users have been advised not to interact with or click on links posted on these accounts until the issue is resolved.

"DO NOT click on the links or purchase tokens that are distributed from their profiles. We are actively working to resolve this issue, but please be vigilant and avoid scams!" - stated in World Liberty Financial.

Lara's husband, Eric Trump, confirmed in a since-deleted X post that his wife's account had been compromised and that while the ads appeared legitimate, they were actually scammers.

According to Eric, X blocked both accounts "within minutes."

Some eagle-eyed X users claim that the accounts were making announcements before they were banned to promote a meme coin on Solana, noting that Eric and Donald Trump have previously stated that no meme coin would be launched.

Cryptocurrency trading tool DEX Screener shows that the address provided in the scam messages has been active for some time.

In the short time it was available, the token reached a peak trading volume of 1.37 million and a maximum price of 0.0053 before falling completely.

“I think this is really hurting Trump’s electoral prospects, especially if he gets hacked, it would be the juiciest DeFi target, and it’s a fork from a protocol that was itself hacked,” Carter wrote in a post on X on September 4.

Details about World Liberty Financial are still scarce.

The World Liberty Financial platform is intended to be a lending and borrowing protocol similar to existing DeFi protocols in the crypto space today.

Trump himself has made several cryptic posts about the new project, implicitly positioning it as a service that will help users bypass traditional banks and make the United States the "crypto capital" of the world.

Liberty's official Telegram group already has over 219,000 subscribers.

Since Trump said he would support the industry if he was re-elected president in November, he has received strong support in the crypto community.
