Telegram CEO released on bail
The Paris court has decided to open an official investigation into Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, releasing him on bail with the condition of paying a 5 million euro guarantee and banning him from leaving France.
Prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced on the evening of August 28 (early morning of September 29, Hanoi time) that investigating judges at the Paris court have decided to open an official investigation into Telegram CEO Pavel Durov for allegations related to organized crime, including complicity in managing an online platform that enabled illegal transactions, refusing to share documents requested by authorities, distributing child pornography, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering.
Durov will be released on bail after paying a 5 million euro guarantee. He is also under judicial supervision, banned from leaving France and required to report to police twice a week.
The decision was made because judges believe there is enough evidence to continue the investigation. This process can take years before French authorities decide whether to bring the case to trial or drop the charges.
