Sony announces Ethereum L2 Soneium, these cryptocurrencies will rise
Sony Group announced the launch of its own blockchain "Soneium" in partnership with Startale. The public Ethereum layer 2 blockchain is built on Optimism's OP Stack. With support from Astar Network, Alchemy, Chainlink, Circle, Optimism, and The Graph, this versatile chain aims to attract application developers in fields such as entertainment, gaming, and finance.
"We believe that developing comprehensive blockchain-based Web3 solutions is of great significance to the Sony Group, which has a wide range of businesses under the motto of 'making the world full of emotions through the power of creativity and technology,'" said Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Blockchain Solutions Lab.
The company plans to launch a testnet in the coming days. Notably, developers and creators can even build their own applications on the testnet using the initial developer tools and SDK.
The company is considering working with Soneium in the future to provide new services based on existing Web3 services. The blockchain will focus on three values - emotion, creativity, and mainstreaming.
The launch of the Soneium blockchain will boost the network and price of Astar Network and other partners including Chainlink, Optimism, and The Graph.
Astar Network is transitioning the Astar zkEVM to Soneium to increase the visibility and utility of ASTR. In addition, the revenue generated will be reinvested into Astar.
ASTR price rose 10% after the announcement, but the gains have not yet dropped to 5% in the past 24 hours. The 24-hour minimum and maximum prices were 0.06902 and 0.0772 respectively.
Optimism price surged 8% in the past 24 hours, rising suddenly after the new blockchain announcement. It hit a 24-hour high of $1.57.
GRT price also rose 7% in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, LINK price rose 1.40% in the past 24 hours.
Circle said it is redefining the Web3 landscape by bridging USDC on Soneium, making the Web3 experience more accessible.
