While everyone is searching for the next crypto narrative, exchange and trading-related tokens continue to look increasingly interesting.
AI, RWA, DeFi, memecoins — the market is constantly searching for the next big narrative. But there is another category of assets backed not only by an idea, but by already functioning trading and crypto-exchange infrastructure.
CoinGecko groups these assets under Exchange-based Tokens, which includes tokens connected to both centralized and decentralized exchanges.
As of September 19, 2026, the top five by market capitalization are:
1. BNB — Binance — $101.4B
2. HYPE — Hyperliquid — $20.7B
3. WBT — WhiteBIT — $9.9B
4. LEO — Bitfinex — $8.2B
5. UNI — Uniswap — $5.7B
What makes this category interesting is that each of these tokens is connected to a real trading ecosystem.
$BNB is tied not only to the world’s largest crypto exchange, but also to BNB Chain, where it is used for gas fees, staking, governance and other ecosystem functions.
$HYPE is the token of Hyperliquid, an on-chain trading infrastructure focused on fully on-chain derivatives trading.
$UNI is the token of Uniswap, one of the largest decentralized exchange ecosystems.
WBT and LEO are directly connected to major centralized exchanges, WhiteBIT and Bitfinex.
So this is not simply a bet that “this blockchain might become popular someday.” Behind these assets are users, liquidity, trading activity and an actual crypto-exchange economy.
And then comes an interesting question: why are some of them not listed on Binance?
Among these five, BNB and UNI have Spot trading on Binance. For example, UNI/USDT is available on Binance.
At the same time, HYPE, WBT and LEO do not currently have Spot listings on Binance. Binance itself indicates that these assets are not available for Spot trading on the platform.
That does not automatically mean Binance considers these projects “bad.” Binance does not publicly provide a specific reason for the absence of each individual token.
Binance says its listing evaluations consider factors such as project development quality, liquidity and trading volume, security, transparency, communication with users, regulatory requirements and tokenomics.
That makes the absence of a listing almost as interesting as the listing itself.
These are already multi-billion-dollar crypto projects, yet some of them are still outside the Spot market of the largest centralized exchange.
And BNB remains the clear #1 — both among exchange-based tokens by market capitalization and in the scale of the Binance exchange itself.
While the market keeps chasing the next narrative, it may also be worth watching assets backed by something much simpler:
the real economics of crypto trading.
