🎃 “Uptober” flop: Bitcoin ends October down about 7%. Second red October in a row
The figures (Binance BTC/USDT, Yahoo Finance, OpenBitcoin):
• Month open: about $83,600. Close on October 31: about $77,500
• High of around $87,000 in early October, low of around $76,200 on the 30th
• Worst session: October 29, down about 4%, on the day of the Binance hack
•
$ETH did worse: down about 16% for the month
• Worst October since 2014 (down 12.6% that year), and the first pair of consecutive red Octobers for
$BTC during this period
What is “Uptober”? A nickname born from a statistic: from 2014 to 2025, October was positive in 9 out of 12 years, with an average gain of about 16%. Many people turned it into a “rule.” It isn’t one: 12 years is a very small sample, and just one bad month brought the success rate down from 75% to 69%.
👩🏾🍳 Example: Khady, a doughnut seller in Thiès, heard on TikTok that “Bitcoin always goes up in October.” She wanted to invest her tontine savings. Luckily, she only invested a small amount she could afford to lose.
⚠️ Takeaways:
1. Seasonality is no guarantee, even if it has “worked” 9 times
2. Big headlines (hacks, ETF launches) can change everything in 48 hours
3. Anyone promising “November is guaranteed to explode” is often trying to sell you something
What about you: do you still believe in “magical” months in crypto, or was it just luck? 👇
