$APP I've been watching this candle from start to finish. The 1-hour candle that opened at 21:00 UTC opened at 271.96,
first dipping to 260.80, then climbing all the way to 343.36, and closing at 330.14.
Up 34.477% in a day.
The broader market was up 2.905% over
$BTC 24 hours, while
$ETH was up 5.356%—a leisurely stroll compared with this candle.
The volume makes it even clearer. 59,681 contracts traded in this hour, versus an average of 1,055.6 over the previous twelve hours. That’s 56.5 times the volume, all packed into one candle.
Yet open interest barely moved. From 20:00 to 21:00, it went from 18,966.86 contracts to just 19,040.59,
with notional value up 0.14%.
Positions didn’t follow.
The current price is at 88.81% of the 20-day range from 225.24 to 343.36, and the only reference point above it is today’s candle itself.
The denominator includes today’s candle, which hasn’t finished yet.
At first glance, I thought I’d read it wrong. I checked twice before I believed it. The long/short account ratio fell from 1.9886 to 1.7847,
and the share of long accounts dropped to 64.09%. Meanwhile, the price kept climbing. These positions were closed out involuntarily;
this wasn’t new money pushing the price up.
It’s like there are only a few bites of food left on the plate: whoever reaches in pulls the price up.
The scarcity is real, but it’s driven by short stop-loss orders, not industry fundamentals. Once the pot is replenished, the food won’t be so hotly contested.
My own take: stay alert, but don’t chase this candle. I’ll watch how it holds if it retests 280.86, the previous upper boundary. What do you think? Let’s discuss in the comments.
