Renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja is among 10 climbers feared missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak in Pakistan's Karakoram range on Thursday. According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the team includes six Nepali climbers, along with one climber each from the United States, China, Pakistan, and Oman. The avalanche hit around midday on the 8,047-metre mountain. and officials say there has been no contact with the group since. Rescue efforts are being planned, with authorities hoping to launch a helicopter search on Friday, depending on weather conditions. Purja, a Nepal-born former Royal Marine, is internationally known for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-metre peaks in a record six months in 2019.
