About Lisk (LSK)

Lisk is a blockchain development platform that allows developers to apply their web development skills to build application-specific blockchains entirely in JavaScript. The platform uses JavaScript, the most widely used programming language in the world, aiming to on-board 100,000,000 users into crypto and web3.

Lisk was founded in 2016 by Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows, the platform was born from a fork in a blockchain called Crypti. The focus of Lisk  is to  expand the blockchain space by aiding to onboard developers of all skill levels by building the Lisk network with popular web development languages. In early 2016, the founders raised 14,000 BTC (approximately $5.6 million at the time) in an Initial Coin Offering  for Lisk's native coin, $LSK.

Applications built on the Lisk network run as individual sidechains. Lisk offers its software development kit, also referred to as Lisk's "sidechain development kit" to developers to build app-specific blockchains. Lisk reports improved scalability using this sidechain application structure compared to other blockchains, allowing developers to customize their applications to a large extent. Using Lisk network tools enable developers to build and publish their applications without learning another programming language.

LSK, the network's native cryptocurrency, serves two major functions. Lisk operates using a Delegated-Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism, so delegates are tasked with validating and creating new blocks on the blockchain. Regarding governance, users who stake their holdings in LSK can choose these delegators. LSK also serves as the currency for network fees, depending on the type of transaction, fees are paid in LSK. These network fees are then split equally among all the delegators.

The initial distribution of LSK at ICO was 100 million and it was divided among ICO participants, core team, campaigns and bounties, and so on. Lisk has no set maximum supply and a depreciating inflationary token forging policy. The current circulating supply is 128,900,445 LSK.

The current price of LSK is updated and available in real time on Binance.

People Also Ask: Other Questions About Lisk

  1. What is LSK Used For?

Because of Lisk's DPoS consensus mechanism, token holders can stake their LSK to select delegates that validate and create new blocks on the Lisk blockchain. Different types of transactions have varied fees - For example, a fee of 5 LSK for registering a second passphrase or registering a username could cost a user 100 LSK - all of which are split equally amongst all delegates.

  2. Who are the Founders of Lisk?

Max Kordek and Oliver Beddows, two experienced blockchain engineers, founded the non-profit Lisk Foundation in 2016 and a blockchain development studio, Lightcurve, to aid Lisk's growth and day-to-day operations.

  3. What is the Maximum Token Supply of LSK?

Lisk's token LSK has no set maximum supply. However, at the time of writing, a total supply of 144 million LSK has been minted with a circulating supply of 128 million LSK.

  4. What Makes Lisk Different From Others?

The Lisk Foundation proclaims that its core mission is the mass adoption of blockchain technology by enabling enthusiasts to participate in building on the blockchain, regardless of technical ability. Lisk aims to accomplish this by writing the backend of their suites entirely in node.js, a familiar  web development programming environment. Using node.js, Lisk lowers the entry barrier to the blockchain for any web developer familiar with JavaScript.
