Korea is paying a small premium for Bitcoin again. $BTC traded at 104.36 million won on Korean exchanges versus 103.35 million won globally, a kimchi premium of about 0.97% (COINOTAG). Last week's moves in $BTC and $ETH have been muted, and a premium this small points to calm local demand rather than a frenzy. Historically, big premiums have shown up when retail excitement runs hot. At under 1%, Korean retail looks cautious, in line with a Fear reading on sentiment gauges. Do you track the kimchi premium as a sentiment signal, or is it just noise? #KimchiPremium #Bitcoin #Korea #CryptoSentiment

Security Incident Update

Binance’s initial investigation suggests that the security incident may be related to a DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to access a service container and make unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any private wallet key leaks. We will share a detailed technical analysis once the investigation is complete and the facts have been fully verified.

The total estimated impact is around $6.3 billion. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze the affected assets, and approximately $3 billion has been frozen on the blockchain so far.

Binance will cover all losses using SAFU funds and company funds. User funds are safe. We will publish an updated Proof of Reserves once remediation is complete.

As an immediate precaution, Binance has:

Temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;

Revoked authorization for the affected address;

Engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover the funds.

Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with law enforcement to confirm the identities of these criminals and bring them to justice.

For updates, please refer only to Binance’s official channels. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support.

The won door just opened for BMT. Korea's biggest exchange added Bubblemaps (BMT) to its won market — trading from 12:00 KST today, which is 10:00 WIB, right about now. The facts: BMT is the token of Bubblemaps, the on-chain analytics firm. The exchange listed it back in August — but BTC and USDT pairs only, no won. Today that gap closes. The tape is already moving: BMTUSDT $0.0379, +30.7% in 24h (Binance spot). Why it matters: won pairs are the sharpest-moving listings in Korea — it's the pair ordinary Korean retail actually trades. This token was already in the feed this week for its sleuthing headlines; now the attention meets the on-ramp. Small cap, thin books, listing-day swings — treat it accordingly. NFA, DYOR. Does the won pair give BMT the retail bid August never had, or is this a listing-day spike that fades by Monday? $BMT #CryptoNews #BMT #Korea #Listing

South Korea’s crypto compliance costs rise as security flaws at 130 institutions draw attention According to Cointelegraph, a review in South Korea found cybersecurity flaws at 130 financial institutions, and the country plans to introduce stricter cybersecurity assessments. The move comes after a series of attacks on banks and crypto companies. Regulators are clearly seeking to raise the security bar and prevent similar incidents from happening again. From a capital-flow perspective, rising compliance costs are a key factor. Local South Korean exchanges and related institutions will need to devote more resources to security upgrades, audits, and ongoing monitoring, directly driving up operating costs. Smaller institutions may feel the pressure more acutely, potentially affecting some capital flows or trading activity. After assessing compliance risks, institutional investors may allocate capital to the local market more cautiously or even shift some of their operations to regions with clearer regulatory environments. Stricter security assessments could also reshape the market. Leading institutions that establish an advantage in compliance may become more competitive, while participants with limited capacity to address deficiencies risk being marginalized. This divergence could further affect the distribution of liquidity in South Korea’s crypto market, with capital potentially concentrating on platforms that are more robust and better equipped to meet compliance requirements. It is worth noting that the specific assessment criteria, implementation timeline, and requirements for institutions of different sizes remain unclear. If the regulations are enforced too rigidly, trading activity could be dampened in the short term. If implemented effectively, however, they could help strengthen confidence in the market as a whole and attract long-term institutional capital. What to watch next is whether South Korean regulators publish detailed assessment guidelines and how local exchanges progress with their upgrades. If compliance costs rise significantly, changes in capital retention and trading activity in South Korea’s crypto market will be key indicators of the impact. #CryptoRegulation #Korea The above is a compilation of information and personal analysis, and does not constitute investment advice.
