Warsh Broke the Rally — Now What?
Bitcoin pumped above 81,000 this week on a wave of ETF inflows and Treasury buyback euphoria. Then Fed Chair Kevin Warsh opened his mouth at Jackson Hole and blew it all up. His verdict: 54% of the PCE basket is still running above 3% inflation, the six-month annualized rate sits at 4.1%, and the Fed has "work to do." September rate hike odds exploded from 35% to 56% overnight. BTC dropped from 81,479 to 76,845 in hours. The August rally isn't dead — but it just got a reality check.

WHAT HAPPENED TODAY
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The headline is simple: Warsh's Jackson Hole speech reset the macro playbook. Inflation at 3.7% headline PCE. Labor markets stable. Financial conditions "not broadly restrictive." Translation: no rate cuts coming, and a hike is now the base case for September.
Bitcoin's 7-day range tells the story: a low of 76,670 to a high of 81,479 — a 6.3% swing in one week. The Aug 29 candle alone was a bloodbath: open at 80,250, close at 77,846, a -3% single-day drop on the highest volume of the week (1.56B in quote volume). Today's bounce to 78,137 is fragile — we're consolidating near the bottom of the range, not reclaiming the top.
A 6.4 billion Bitcoin options expiry on Aug 29 amplified the selloff. Calls outnumbered puts, with most positioning concentrated in the 75K-80K strikes. As price crashed through that zone, market makers delta-hedged aggressively, accelerating the move.
On-chain: long-term holders aren't flinching. Dormant coin activity in Q2 hit its lowest level since 2022. Five wallets from 2011-2014 moved 553 BTC (40M) this week — all to private custody, not exchanges. The diamond hands are holding.

ETF FLOWS — The Streak Snaps
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
BTC ETFs recorded 202M in net outflows on Aug 29, ending a 9-day, 3 billion inflow streak. ARK 21Shares led with 115M redeemed, followed by Bitwise (50M) and even BlackRock's IBIT (33M). Morgan Stanley's MSBT was the lone buyer at +9.3M.
But context matters: August MTD net inflows are still +3.5B across 19 trading days (15 green, 4 red). The daily average is +185M. One bad day doesn't erase a record month.
The real question: do inflows resume Monday? If they do, this was a Warsh-induced pause. If they don't, the rally was momentum-chasing and the floor drops out.
ETH ETFs, meanwhile, are on a 10-day inflow streak. Aug 27 alone saw +226M — the strongest single day since October 2025. The ETH/BTC rotation trade is real. ETH surged 30% this week while BTC bled.

ALTCOIN PERFORMANCE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
SOL (+0.85% today, +30% weekly) is the clear leader. Solana ETF inflows added 28M this week. XRP (+0.40%) drew 40M in ETF inflows across four sessions. Even HYPE pulled in 3.9M.
The pattern: money is rotating from BTC into alts, not leaving crypto entirely. When BTC stumbles, alts hold up or outperform. That's risk-on behavior, not risk-off.
BNB (+0.52%) quietly grinding higher at 694. AVAX flat at 7.30. DOGE and ADA slightly red — the meme and legacy alts aren't catching the rotation bid.

TOKEN UNLOCKS THIS WEEK
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
715M total tokens released across the market this week. The big ones:
Humanity Protocol (H): 18.8M unlock on Aug 25 — 7.92% of circulating supply. Largest proportional hit.
GateToken (GT): 15.6M on Aug 25 — 1.88% of float.
Plasma (XPL): 8.9M on Aug 25 — 3.31% of float.
Huma Finance (HUMA): 6.1-10.1M on Aug 26 — 16.70% of released supply. Ouch.
Falcon Finance (FF): 7.6M on Aug 29 — 2.57% of supply.
Collector Crypt (CARDS): 5M on Aug 29 — 5.45% of supply.
HUMA and H carry the most selling pressure relative to their market caps. Watch for post-unlock dumps Monday.

KEY LEVELS TO WATCH
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
BTC Support: 76,500-77,000 (Aug 29 low, 7-day range bottom)
BTC Resistance: 80,000-81,000 (the wall that keeps rejecting)
BTC Invalidation: Weekly close below 76,500 opens the door to 72K
ETH Support: 2,400-2,430 (today's low)
ETH Resistance: 2,530-2,570 (weekly high)
ETH is outperforming BTC — if BTC holds, ETH runs.

BOTTOM LINE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The August rally was built on three pillars: record ETF inflows, Treasury buyback euphoria, and a massive short squeeze. Warsh just knocked out the first one. The second doesn't kick in until Sept 9. The third already played out.
But this isn't a crash — it's a repricing. BTC is up 22%+ in August even after the selloff. The macro got harder, not impossible. The next 10 days are critical: if ETF inflows resume and BTC holds 77K, this is a dip to buy. If inflows stay negative and 76,500 breaks, the August gains evaporate fast.
Keep your stops tight. Trade the levels, not the narrative.
Not financial advice.
