Crypto: Grayscale launches the first Zcash ETF listed in the United States

Grayscale takes a new step with Zcash. The asset manager began trading its ZCSH product on Tuesday, August 25, on the NYSE Arca, giving U.S. investors exposure to ZEC directly from their brokerage account, without having to buy or hold the token themselves. The launch comes after a critical flaw in Zcash shielded transactions was corrected. The issue was fixed, especially with the Ironwood update activated in July.

The ZCSH fund began trading on Tuesday, August 25, on NYSE Arca— a global first for direct exposure to ZEC.

The vehicle, launched as a private trust in October 2017, was converted into an ETF following a filing with the SEC last November.

The listing comes after the discovery and correction of a critical flaw in Zcash protected transactions.

ZCSH, nine years after the trust, goes public

It took nearly nine years for Grayscale’s product to make the leap. Launched in October 2017 as a private trust, the Grayscale Zcash Trust now trades on the U.S. market under the ticker ZCSH. Grayscale began the transformation into an ETF with a filing with the SEC last November.

The difference is mainly practical for investors. Holders of ZCSH do not directly own ZEC: they own shares in a fund whose value must track that of the ZEC held by the vehicle. This allows them to gain exposure to Zcash from their brokerage account without managing their own keys or crypto storage.

According to Grayscale, ZCSH is the first exchange-traded product to offer spot exposure to Zcash. The company is especially targeting investors who want to diversify their crypto exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.
