Polygon co-founder Mihailo Bjelic: Polygon is not a sidechain, but a complete set of expansion solutions; Polygon's PoS chain has a completely decentralized validator set, and has $2.8 billion (data on May 16, 2022) for staking to ensure network security; saying that Layer2 is safer than the sidechain solution is misleading. For example, StarkWare's Rollup solution has only one PoA running node, which may crash or indulge in power in transactions.
