Ethereum is preparing for “Q-Day” ⚛️
There’s a change on Ethereum that I think is far more noteworthy than a short-term pump:
42.4 million ETH staked ≈ $104 billion is currently based on the BLS signature system.
So what’s the issue?
Powerful quantum computers in the future could break this type of cryptography.
Ethereum is therefore proposing EIP-8394: redesign the validator deposit system to support new key types, aiming for quantum-resistant signatures and ultimately removing BLS for new validators.
What I find most interesting:
👉 Don’t wait for the quantum computer to arrive to fix it.
👉 Prepare the migration infrastructure from now.
👉 The Ethereum Foundation is working toward major post-quantum upgrades around 2029.
But don’t misunderstand:
ETH today is not being “hacked by a quantum computer.”
This is still a very early proposal.
I see this story from a different angle:
Ethereum isn’t just scaling for today — they’re preparing cryptography for the next 10–20 years.
And if quantum computing progresses faster than expected...
any chain that can’t update in time will be the one that runs into problems. 👀
