IoTeX prepares Zanzibar: on-chain staking rewards
Zanzibar is scheduled for block 53,533,081. The October 19 reference time of 02:00 UTC was approximate: at 02:07 UTC, the public node queried showed block 53,532,563 and had not yet returned the target block.
IIP-59 adds reward distribution to the protocol for voters participating in the staking of participating delegates. Rewards are calculated and credited in 24-epoch eras, with processing spread across blocks.
Automatic migration requires a configured Hermes vault reward address and both distribution percentages to be present in DelegateProfile. Hermes delegates with incomplete fields remain on that system; others can opt in. Simply holding IOTX does not automatically qualify you for these rewards or guarantee higher returns.
On October 14, Binance announced a pause in deposits and withdrawals via the IoTeX network from approximately 01:00 UTC on the 19th. It said trading would not be affected and that transfers would resume once the network was stable. That announcement does not confirm the current status of wallets.
For node operators, the recommended version is v2.5.1; v2.4.x nodes must be upgraded to follow the new chain. It is worth distinguishing the technical change from its actual adoption.
Market snapshot, 02:06 UTC: IOTX was trading at 0.004021 USDT (+5.289% in 24 hours); BTC, as a general benchmark, was at 82,510.77 USDT (+1.030%). IOTX's rise does not prove that Zanzibar caused it or predict the outcome of the upgrade.
