I want to ask everyone in the community: when you hear things like quantum computing and cryptography, can you understand them? —Honestly, as someone with a humanities background, I find it pretty difficult. But now I get it! A while ago, #Starknet started researching an independent L1, and one of the topics under discussion was resistance to quantum computing. I didn’t understand at the time—why was Starknet researching this? Last night, I specifically asked a guy with a STEM background to explain it to me. Here’s how he put it: Right now, your password is still your password, and it’s secure. But in the future, that might no longer be the case. If quantum computers become powerful enough in the future, they could threaten some of the cryptographic algorithms we use today. When that happens, the security of wallets and blockchain assets could be at risk, so we may need to upgrade. For example, a seed phrase uses a fixed list of 2,048 words. A 12-word phrase has around 5.44×10395.44×1039 possible combinations. The seed phrases we use are selected from this list. If quantum computing advances to a certain point, it may be possible to break some of the cryptographic algorithms used by blockchains. One example is elliptic curve digital signatures. Simply put, if this system is broken by a sufficiently powerful quantum computer in the future, our on-chain assets could be at risk. So, #Starknet researching quantum-resistant security in advance doesn’t mean wallets are unsafe now. It means researching solutions before the problem actually arises. The #Starknet community once held a vote on launching related research, and the proposal received 93.52% of the votes. This shows that the community strongly supports researching quantum-resistant security ahead of time. I used to think quantum computing and cryptography were far removed from my life. Now I realize they could affect the assets in our wallets. Next article: Everyone changes their own #Starknet door lock! My Twitter account: @erjie22. You’re welcome to visit.

That Starknet vote on “whether to research building an independent, quantum-resistant L1” got 93.52% support, and a bunch of accounts spun it into “the community is firmly behind it.” Honestly, it’d be stranger if a vote like this had any opposition. First, let’s be clear about what it was: a non-binding Snapshot vote asking “should we research this?”—not “should we leave?” The team can do the research on its own; there’s no need for a vote. So why hold one? Because the vote itself is content, and it can trend. STRK was the most-searched coin on CryptoRank that week, and its price jumped by double digits after the vote. Mission accomplished. Now look at the numbers: 3,236 votes, with 489.3 million STRK voting power. That’s about 150,000 tokens per vote on average. This isn’t “the community”—it’s whales and institutional wallets voting for their own positions. Of course token holders want an L1. Put bluntly, an L2 token is just a governance voucher; turn it into an L1 and you can talk about gas fees, staking, and security budgets, and switch to a whole new valuation model. Who would vote against their own token going up in price? “Quantum resistance” is the most convenient cover story this time around. Quantum computing is a real issue, but it affects the whole industry; Ethereum is also researching quantum resistance. Using it as a reason to break away from Ethereum looks more like a new narrative to lean on now that L2 revenue can’t support the valuation. The original fundraising pitch was Ethereum scaling; now it’s independent sovereignty. The narrative follows the token price. They say a white paper draft is due in November. When it comes out, I’ll be looking at just three things: where the validators will come from, how the security budget will be funded, and how the inflation of existing STRK will change. If they can’t answer those three questions, 93% is just the conversion rate of a marketing campaign. #Starknet #STRK

【Market Update】The vote passed—does that mean Starknet is about to leave Ethereum and go it alone? Not quite: this was a non-binding poll that only authorized the launch of a study. Independence would require another vote. The motivation is quantum security: STARK proofs are quantum-resistant, but the bridge still depends on Ethereum, whose target for a quantum-resistant L1 is December 2029. STRK will remain unchanged, with no new tokens issued. Is independence the way forward, or is it safer to stay on Ethereum? #STARKNET The proposal to transition to an independent L1 passed with 93% support, but the positive news came alongside a major setback. Extended, a leading perpetuals platform, migrated to the Arc chain, taking $120 million in TVL with it. This directly caused Starknet’s TVL to plunge 73% and stablecoin liquidity to shrink sharply. #strk had doubled earlier on expectations of an L1, but is now facing heavy profit-taking, falling 58% and wiping out all of this month’s gains. It dropped another 7% on the 22nd, with momentum weakening. The project will allocate funds to research the L1 transition, but in the short term, #defi ecosystem has been severely weakened.

Starknet’s “vote to research an independent post-quantum L1” got 93.52% in favor. My first reaction after reading it was: this vote amounted to nothing—but the timing was spot on. Let’s go over the timeline. Voting opened on October 15, the same day about 127 million STRK tokens were unlocked for investors and early team members (according to @cryptolevier on X). The vote was non-binding, with no quorum requirement. A yes vote only meant “start researching”—no migration, no timeline, no new token. The official word is that a white paper will come out in November. And then? Someone in the replies said STRK had surged around 80% in a week, while “quantum narrative” shills were suddenly everywhere. A Snapshot vote with no conclusions to speak of conjured up a narrative right during unlock week. Everyone knows who needs that liquidity the most. Eli Ben-Sasson says Ethereum only becoming quantum-safe in 2029 is “too late—the deadline will slip.” He’s not wrong: STARK proofs are indeed hash-based, and accounts can switch signatures. But when the CEO of an L2 publicly talks down the timeline of its own settlement layer while promoting the possibility of going “independent,” that’s a statement from an interested party—not neutral technical commentary. The 3,236 votes set a record for participation in Starknet’s history. Sounds exciting. Put simply, it was big stakers voting for their own story. Research is fine, but I’ve seen this combination—narrative pumps first, white paper comes later, unlock happens at the same time—far too many times. #Starknet #STRK

🤫 Something about $STRK , and suddenly everyone went quiet... Where did the whole crowd disappear to? Does nobody believe in its growth and technology anymore? 🤔 While other assets are showing momentum, a real attention vacuum has formed around Starknet. But we know crypto’s golden rule: you should buy when everyone is scared or indifferent, not when every appliance is shouting about “100x gains.” Maybe right now, amid the crowd’s complete apathy, big players are quietly building positions ahead of the L1 upgrade? Starknet Community Vote Passes: Launch Research into an “Independent Post-Quantum L1” The non-binding Snapshot vote (10/15–10/22) passed with approximately 93.52% of voting power in favor, representing about 3,236 votes; StarkWare abstained. This does not mean a move to L1 has been approved. A formal migration would still require a subsequent binding governance vote. Key points: 1. Goal: Research becoming an independent, quantum-resistant Layer 1; Starknet currently continues to operate as an Ethereum L2. 2. StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation have established a joint working group; a draft white paper is planned for public release in November. 3. Official position: $STRK remains the native token, with no new token to be issued; the bridge to $ETH can remain open. 4. Starknet's L1 research poll passed with 93.52%. 3,236 wallets voted, but 50 of them cast 89% of the voting power. The Snapshot poll closed on Oct 22. It asked whether StarkWare and the Starknet Foundation should research turning Starknet into an independent post-quantum L1. Yes took 457.6M STRK of voting power, No took 22.4M and Neutral 9.3M. We pulled the votes from Snapshot and ranked them. The top 20 wallets carried 47% of the weight on their own. The other 3,186 wallets added up to about 11%. Total weight was 489M STRK, about 6.4% of the 7.59B STRK in circulation. A staking poll on the same Snapshot space in March drew 350 votes and 492M STRK. Nine times more voters this time, and almost the same weight. The poll is non-binding and StarkWare abstained. Starknet stays an Ethereum L2 for now, STRK stays the token and the bridges to Ethereum stay open. Any real move needs a separate binding vote once the research is done. On these numbers, that binding vote will be settled by a few dozen wallets. $STRK #Starknet #Ethereum NFA. DYOR.

A very “future-facing” vote has appeared in L2 circles. About 93.5% of votes in Starknet’s community governance poll supported “researching” the possibility of becoming an independent post-quantum L1. The official team stressed that this is not a binding decision; Starknet remains an Ethereum L2 for now. Any actual migration would require another binding vote. StarkWare says it will draft a white paper. Research ≠ decoupling. But the community’s willingness to put an “independent post-quantum chain” on the agenda shows that the narrative has already moved beyond scaling to long-term security architecture. #Starknet #以太坊 #L2 #PostQuantum

These Starknet folks really seem ready to go solo Just in: The Starknet community has voted in favor of starting research into “leaving Ethereum and becoming an independent, post-quantum L1.” 93.52% of the voting power was in favor, with more than 3,200 votes cast. This was the highest-participation vote in Starknet governance history. StarkWare abstained, leaving the decision to the community. First, an important distinction: They didn’t vote to “break up now.” They voted to “study whether they should break up.” If they do decide to leave, there’ll have to be another binding vote later. Starknet is still an L2 on Ethereum and continues to operate as usual. The team says a white paper draft will be published in November for public review. So why consider leaving all of a sudden? The reason is pretty hardcore: post-quantum security. Once quantum computers mature, elliptic-curve signatures could be as flimsy as paper. On-chain assets would be completely exposed. Starknet’s ZK architecture has a natural advantage when it comes to quantum resistance. Leaving Ethereum could give them more freedom to move at their own pace. The most surreal thing to me is the reversal in logic. Isn’t the “Ethereum ecosystem” what gives L2s their prestige? Arbitrum and Optimism rely on it to attract users. But Starknet is doing the opposite: no more riding Ethereum’s coattails—they’re going solo. They’re betting that the “quantum-resistant” narrative can support an independent valuation. But the numbers tell it like it is. More than 3,200 votes, with 93.5% in favor—the community really does want independence. But let’s not forget that most of Starknet’s TVL and active users still come from the Ethereum ecosystem. Decoupling is easy; standing alone is hard. Here’s another uncomfortable point: this vote isn’t binding. The white paper draft won’t be out until November. In other words, the community has spoken first, and the team will take its time researching afterward. Is this a real blueprint, or just a new story to tell $STRK ? Let’s wait and see. Do you think L2s going solo is a way forward, or will they fade without Ethereum? Let’s talk in the comments 👇 $STRK $ETH #Starknet #Ethereum Not investment advice. DYOR. Trading involves risk.

Starknet Votes 93.52% to Explore Leaving Ethereum: What It Really Means for $STRK

The poll is non-binding and only approves research into a quantum-resistant layer-1. Here's what changed, what didn't, and why $STRK holders should read the fine print.
🗳️ Starknet's community just voted 93.52% in favor, and the headlines are shouting "Ethereum exit." The vote itself says something much smaller.
The seven-day governance poll closed on October 22. About 3,200 votes were cast, a record for Starknet governance, and 93.52% of voting power backed researching whether Starknet should become an independent, quantum-resistant layer-1 instead of staying an Ethereum layer-2.
🏷️ Here's the fine print most headlines skip.
The poll is non-binding. It authorizes study, not departure. Starknet keeps running as an Ethereum L2, $STRK stays its native token with non-new token planned, and the bridges to Ethereum stay open. A draft whitepaper is planned for November, and any real move would need a separate governance vote.
🧠 Why is this even on the table?
The reason is quantum computing. Starknet's STARK proofs are hash-based, and its accounts can adopt post-quantum signatures, but its bridge and data availability still depend on Ethereum's upgrade timeline. StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson wants Starknet quantum-resistant by 2027, and he argues that Ethereum's projected timeline of 2029 is too late. StarkWare's Quantum Hub says it has tested a quantum-resistant transaction on Starknet, though independent auditors haven't reviewed the method.
⚠️ Read the 93.52% carefully.
That number measures voting power, not the share of holders who agreed. Most of the voting power came from tokens delegated by the Foundation, and StarkWare itself abstained. Early tallies above 99.9% were circulating before the final count landed. It's also worth noting that $STRK has given back most of its October rally, so the market isn't treating this as a bullish catalyst yet.
✅ What this means for you
If you trade $STRK, nothing has been decided, so don't price in an exit that hasn't been approved. The next real catalyst is the November whitepaper, and headline-driven swings are likely until then.
If you're on the sidelines, this is a story to understand, not to chase. The difference between an L2 and an L1 matters here, because leaving Ethereum would change what secures the network.
If you hold $STRK, there's nothing to move or migrate. The token stays, the bridges stay open, and the thing to watch is the governance forum where the next proposals will appear.
🟢 Bullish scenario
The whitepaper lays out a credible plan, the quantum-security angle draws fresh attention to Starknet, and $STRK holders keep their token while the network gains a differentiated story.
🔴 Risk scenario
The research drags on, voting power concentration fuels doubts about how representative the result was, and Starknet loses the "secured by Ethereum" pitch without a clear replacement.
👀 Three things to watch
1️⃣ The November whitepaper
Does it describe a concrete architecture and security model, or stay high level?
2️⃣ The next binding vote
Who votes this time, and does participation reach beyond the Foundation's delegated tokens?
3️⃣ Ethereum's response
Does Ethereum bring its own quantum plans forward from the 2029 estimate?
💡 The key takeaway
The vote opened a research door, not an exit door. Starknet is still an Ethereum L2, and any real departure needs another vote and a lot more detail.
The real question isn't whether 93.52% sounds decisive. It's whether the people who actually hold $STRK will back the plan once there's something concrete to vote on.
That is the part worth watching.
