The Montenegro Basic Court has delivered a verdict finding Do Kwon, co-founder of Terra, and Han Chang-joon, the former chief financial officer, guilty in a passport forgery case. Both individuals have been sentenced to four months in jail.
During a hearing on June 19, Judge Ivana Becic ruled that Do Kwon and Han Chang-joon had used fake Costa Rican passports in an attempt to board a flight to Dubai in March. The four-month sentence includes the time they spent in custody from March 23 to June 15.
The judge briefly explained her decision, stating that the dissatisfied party has the option to appeal within eight days of receiving the written verdict. On June 15, the Montenegro High Court approved Do Kwon and Han Chang-joon's bail request. However, at the request of South Korea, the Montenegro High Court ordered extradition custody for up to six months, which means that both individuals will remain in custody.
On June 16, Do Kwon and Han Chang-joon claimed that they were unaware the passports obtained through the economic citizenship program were fake, as they had traveled around the world using these Costa Rican and Belgian passports. Do Kwon also disclosed how he acquired passports in Singapore.
Do Kwon's lawyer, Goran Rodić, stated that it is still too early to determine whether the two will be extradited and that they plan to file a complaint against the detention after receiving the written verdict within 30 days. The Montenegro High Court is currently looking to expedite the extradition proceedings to send both South Korean citizens back to their country.
