Bitmine Buys Another 12,535 ETH! How to Read Its 6.04 Million ETH Holdings Without Getting It Wrong 👀
In a company announcement on October 19, Bitmine said it bought 12,535
$ETH over the past week.
As of 3:00 p.m. ET on October 18, the company held a total of 6,041,481 ETH, equal to 4.9% of the total supply according to the announcement.
This is a holdings update disclosed yesterday—not a sudden purchase of 6.04 million ETH tonight.
📌 When researching companies buying crypto, first distinguish between “holdings” and “additions”
6.04 million ETH is the size of its holdings accumulated over the long term; 12,535 ETH is the amount it bought over the past week, as stated in this announcement.
Both figures matter, but they answer different questions:
Total holdings tell you how much exposure the company has to ETH.
Recent purchases help you track its buying activity lately.
Whenever you see a new record for cumulative holdings, you can't count the entire total again as this week's buying.
🔍 Going forward, I'll be watching three things
① Will the buying continue?
Look at the actual purchase amounts disclosed in future updates, the sources of funds, and financing conditions. Don't assume the same scale will be maintained every week. Purchases already completed are not funds waiting to enter the market in the future.
② What is driving changes in its holdings?
Purchases, sales, and staking rewards can all affect the amount held. When comparing future reports, check what is behind the changes—don't treat every increase as a spot-market purchase.
③ Is the price absorbing selling pressure?
Corporate accumulation is one piece of evidence of demand, but there are other buyers and sellers in the market. If purchases continue and prices stop making lower lows, it may be worth looking more closely at whether demand is gradually gaining the upper hand.
If news of continued accumulation keeps coming but the price continues to hit new lows, you can't use “the big players are buying” alone to validate your view.
My take: This update is worth following, but corporate holdings don't put a floor under ETH's price. What really matters is looking at the cumulative holdings, recent purchases, and the market's response together.
When you see news about companies buying crypto, do you first look at “how much they hold in total” or “how much more they actually bought this week”? 👇
