While reading about @BabylonLabs_io , I found myself spending more time on Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (TBV) than I expected. At first, I thought the biggest innovation was simply letting native Bitcoin be used as collateral. But after digging deeper, I realized what interested me most was where the trust actually comes from. Instead of relying on a custodian to hold your Bitcoin, TBV is designed so the system is backed by cryptographic rules while your BTC remains native. Of course, that doesn’t mean every risk disappears. Smart contract connections and the applications built on top of TBV still need to prove themselves over time, and I think that’s an important distinction to understand.
The first TBV use case is already live on the public testnet with Aave v4. Users can try native Bitcoin-backed borrowing by using BTC as collateral to borrow supported assets like USDC and USDT on Ethereum, then fill out the feedback form to help improve the experience. I like campaigns that encourage me to understand how a system is designed instead of just telling me what it can do, and this one definitely did.
