My first P2P trade almost failed simply because I didn’t understand why the crypto seemed to “disappear” from the seller’s wallet as soon as the order was filled. Later I found out it was margin (escrow), not a system error.
Those coins were locked until both sides confirmed; nobody could touch them, not even the seller. At that time, I felt relieved, because up until then I always thought P2P was like free-for-all trading—whoever acts faster wins.
A few minutes later, the seller privately messaged me asking me to add Telegram to “handle things faster.” I refused and kept all communication within the app. If I had agreed back then, and something had gone wrong, there would be nothing left for the support team to look back on.
I also saved screenshots of the order and the chat, even though the final transaction still went smoothly. I’ve kept that habit to this day, treating it as a no-fee insurance policy for every time I press the pay button.
